Made in walnut, the recessed windows and six fluted columns in Macassar ebony, a small ring box and compartmentalized jewellery tray
beneath the lifting roof.

James Athenian Stuart’s Temple of Theseus at Hagley Hall in Worcestershire (built 1758–62) has been reinterpreted here as a jewellery box. Itself a miniature version of a 6th-century BC temple in Athens, it was one of the first buildings outside Greece to feature the correct use of the Greek Doric order.
The inspiration for miniature architectural boxes like this may come from a client’s own home or favourite building. They may be made as jewellery boxes, humidors, games compendiums, stationery boxes, or even musical boxes.
