Description / ExpertiseTheobald Wolfe Tone was a famous Irish patriot and politician.Son of a Dublin coachmaker, he graduated from Trinity College and entered Middle Temple and in 1789 was called to the Irish Bar.He published many works in which he asserted Irish independence, joining the Belfast Volunteers and in 1792 was part of the group which presented a petition to George 111. After working towards these ends from abroad, he joined an expedition under Hardy. Finally he was tried by Court Martial and sentenced to death, but having been refused a soldier's execution, he commmitted suicide.This impressive miniature is set in the original locket frame with a fabulous diamond set reverse and central hair panel. |
