Provenance

The Vulliamy Clockbooks in the British Horological Institute note that this clock was delivered to a Colonel Eyre on 30th August 1826. Colonel Eyre was a keen collector of plants and in 1849 he discovered the Hong Kong Camellia in a ravine in Victoria Peak, Hong Kong.

Description / Expertise

A rare early 19th century 8-Day striking mahogany wall clock by this eminent Royal Clockmaker. The substantial striking movement runs for 8 days and has its original anchor escapement and brass bob pendulum. The finely engraved silvered 13inch brass dial has Roman hour numerals and an outer band of Arabic numerals for the minutes. The beautifully proportioned mahogany case has the finest figured mahogany veneers and a chisel shaped base with a full-opening door. It retains its original bold brass bezel and turned wooden surround.

* The Vulliamy family was one of the most important London clockmaking families from 1750-1850 and worked as Royal Makers.
